Bessie Coleman was the first African American and the first native American female pilot. She was prevented from holding a licence in the US due to her race and gender, yet achieved an international pilots licence in 1921 by moving to France to realise her ambition. She was incredibly determined and made it her goal to encourage women and African Americans to reach their dreams.
